Introduction

Founded in 1967, the Community College of Denver is a public, two-year institution located in Denver, Colorado. The school provides students with more than 125 program choices to prepare for new careers, job advancement, or transfer to a four-year institution. With multiple sites, traditional classrooms, and online learning options, scheduling and class offerings are flexible. Both credit and non-credit courses are taught at locations city-wide, including the main CCD Auraria Campus (which shares a campus with the 麻豆网 of Colorado Denver and the Metropolitan State College of Denver), CCD Lowry, and the Online Learning center. Continuing education and professional development courses offer education options for busy professionals.

Academics

Students choose from associate degree- or certificate-granting areas of study, including but not limited to, accounting, behavioral sciences, early childhood education, engineering, foreign language, graphic design, liberal arts, nursing, biology, paralegal, radiologic technology, per-aerospace engineering technology, theatre and veterinary technology.

By providing real-world training to its students the college hopes to prepare a well-trained workforce for not just the current job market but long-term careers. Through partnerships with businesses, the community and individuals, CCD supports the local economy which promoting personal and academic success with opportunities for non-traditional students, workforce development and training resources, strategic community partnerships, and K-12 and higher education programs. Some of the schools top features and resources are an Open-Admissions policy, academic and student support services, and membership with the American Association of Community Colleges & Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.

The school is an Academic Quality Improvement Program participant. Programs with specific accreditations are the dental hygiene program by the American Dental Association, human services by the Council for Standards in Human Service Education, nursing by the Colorado State Board of Nursing, radiologic technology by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation and the Joint Review Committee on Education for Radiologic Technology, the CCD Children鈥檚 College on the Auraria Campus by the National Association for Education of Young Children Center, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Admissions

All students 17 or older are automatically admitted thanks to the open admissions policy. Acceptance to any particular program of study is not, however, guaranteed, and may require meeting further criteria. Students may apply online, in person, or by mailing or faxing an application to the admissions office.

All students are welcome to apply for admission; however, non-Colorado residents should expect to pay higher tuition and fees.

Financial Aid

To be considered for financial aid all applicants must fill out the FAFSA. Students may qualify for college or federal grants, loans, or employment opportunities, such as the Colorado Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Program, or need-based or the Colorado no-need work study programs.

Need or merit based scholarship are available to students, and criteria may include program affiliation, academic achievement, or civic involvement. Students may search for scholarships by criteria on the school’s website, or by consulting the Financial Aid department.

Students

The student body is comprised of nearly 15,000 students from every walk of life. High school students taking Postsecondary Enrollment Options program courses make up part of the student body, as do Career Education Center Middle College of Denver or Southwest Early College dual-enrollment high school students. Recent high school graduates make up a large percentage of students, as do adults looking for retraining or a career change.

First-generation, low-income and minority students are encouraged to apply. In fact, Latino students make up more than 25% of all students, and 46% of students are minority. The school even has federal recognition as the sole Hispanic Serving Institution in the urban Denver area.

A variety of Student Life activities are arranged annually. Some examples are BBQ鈥檚, the Urban Arts Festival, the Latina Initiative, Backpack Talks, the Women鈥檚 Leadership Conference, the African American Leadership Conference, and Lunch with Lawmakers events. Students join a variety of clubs and organizations like the African Culture Club, La Mision, SAFI, International Students Inc of Auraria, the Phi Theta Kappa academic honor society, the YESS Empowering service club, and student government.

Students may elect to stay in housing at the Regency: Auraria鈥檚 Student Housing Community. Amenities include a swimming pool, internet access, cable TV, and phone services, as well as a coffee shop and convenience store in the building. Residents may buy a meal plan for the dorm-style cafeteria. Other student housing options include the Inn at Auraria downtown Denver, and the Campus Village.
