Introduction

Located in Somerset, Kentucky, Somerset Community College is part of the Kentucky Community and Technological College System. Somerset Community College is a public, two-year college that maintains an open-admissions policy. Although it was originally established on one campus, today Somerset Community College has two campuses and four centers in south-central Kentucky. Somerset Community College offers numerous Associate degree programs: Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science. Beyond these degrees, it also offers diplomas and certificates in various disciplines. Diplomas require 36-68 credit hours, while certificates generally require 12-36 credit hours. For those pursuing an Associate degree, there are 60 to 70 credit hours required at a minimum. The school has program agreements with most of Kentucky鈥檚 major colleges and universities, so that those who receive an Associate degree are able to transfer credit towards a four-year Bachelor鈥檚 degree. Matriculates may choose from courses available in numerous fields of study, including Business administration, information technology, and health fields such as practical nursing. Somerset Community College seeks to ensure that its students learn both through comprehensive classroom instruction, as well as through hands-on practical experience. Unique Programs

Among the unique curricula and programs offered at Somerset Community College, is the SCC Theatre Program. Somerset Community College also participates in the Ready to Work Program, which is a partnership between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and the Cabinet for Health and Family services. Through this program, Somerset Community College endeavors to aid those matriculates who are enrolled in the Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program. Through the Ready to Work Program, SCC helps students seeking short-term training opportunities.

Admissions

Somerset Community College maintains a unique admissions policy. Potential matriculates may fill out an application for admission through one of three avenues: accessing a PDF application online, picking up an application at the Admissions Office, or filling out a KCTCS online application. Regardless of which type of application potential students choose to submit, the college also requires an official high school transcript or GED scores. Additionally applicants must also submit either their ACT scores or COMPASS test results. After submitting one鈥檚 application and supplemental materials, it is time to determine your desired program of study as well as the date at which you plan to begin your courses.
