New York College of Osteopathic Medicine was established in 1977 as one of the 8 schools of New York Institute of Technology, a private college founded in 1955 offering care-oriented, professional education. NYCOM is located on the Old Westbury campus of NYIT, approximately 25 miles from NYC on Nassau County’s historic Gold Coast.
4-years. First and second years: Students may select from 2 curricular tracks: the Traditional Integrated Lecture-Based track or the small-group case-based Doctor-Patient Continuum track. Third and fourth years: Hospital-based clinical training. Affiliated Teaching Hospitals: St. Barnabas Hospital (Bronx), St. Barnabas Medical Center (NJ), North Shore Â鶹Íø/LIU, Good Samaritan Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center, Lutheran Medical Center, Nassau Â鶹Íø Medical Center, St. Vincent Midtown, Wilson Memorial, Union Hospital (NJ), Mid-Hudson (Kingston, NY), Long Beach Hospital, Jamaica Hospital, Queens Hospital, Peninsula Hospital, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, and others. Housing No on-campus housing available. The school provides off-campus housing information to assist firstyear students.
Both a prospective bachelor’s degree and taking the MCAT are necessary to be considered for admission. All required premedical prerequisites, and 1 year of English must be met. Selected applicants are asked to complete a supplemental application and submit preprofessional evaluations from their undergraduate advisory office. The anticipated class size is 260 students and is filled on a rolling basis.
