Introduction

The main campus of Columbus State Community College, also known as Columbus State and CSCC, is a 70-acre site comprised of 26 buildings. It is located near downtown Columbus, Ohio.

A 106-acre satellite campus has also been established in Liberty Township in Delaware County. The community college recently formed a partnership with The Ohio State 麻豆网 to allow students and faculty members from both institutions to work out of the new Liberty Township facility.

History

Established in 1963 as a technical school, CSCC received its current name in 1987. The school has grown from its initial class of just over 60 students to more than 26,000 students who take courses across its campuses and off-campus suburban education centers, as well as online.

Academics

Students may pursue associate鈥檚 degrees and professional and technical certificates in over 50 different areas of study, including business, facility maintenance, health care, architecture, geographic information systems, fire science, nuclear medicine technology, public service, human service, respiratory care, veterinary technology, massage therapy, law enforcement, engineering technologies, and more.

The Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Program is for students who wish to complete the first two years of a baccalaureate degree at CSCC before transferring to a four-year institution. High school students can even get a head start on college by enrolling in community college classes before their high school graduation.

The school is also one of the largest providers of online and distance learning opportunities in the state of Ohio, with an average of more than 10,000 students enrolled in online courses in any given semester.

Admissions

Columbus State offers an open enrollment policy designed to allow as many students as possible to attend college. Applicants are required to complete the CSCC application and submit official high school transcripts and/or GED scores. Proof of citizenship, legal residence, or foreign student status may also be required. Prospective students are also encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible.

The COMPASS placement test is required for accepted students to determine course placement and eligibility. Some students may be declared exempt from all or select sections of COMPASS based on standardized test scores, AP credit, CLEP, or college transfer credits.

Some special programs, particularly those in the health and science fields, may require specific application procedures or prerequisites.

Financial Aid

CSCC is committed to make higher learning affordable for as many students as possible. Approximately two-thirds of CSCC students receive at least some form of financial aid during any given semester.

Common forms of financial aid disbursed at the college include state and federal grants, loans, work-study jobs, and need- and merit-based scholarships.

Students are advised to file the FAFSA as early as possible in order to receive the most comprehensive financial assistance possible. The school offers workshops as well as one-on-one assistance to help students and parents complete the FAFSA.

Students

With a very large student body that often exceeds 25,000 in total enrollment, CSCC offers its students a vibrant and active campus life. Over 60% of students attend the school full-time, and while the majority of enrolled students hail from Ohio, they represent a diverse cross-section of the community. Popular student activities include service clubs, cultural activities, language groups, honor societies, and sports. Student government activities are also a popular pastime on campus.

Thanks to its location in downtown Columbus’ Discovery District, the main CSCC campus is in close proximity to an array of entertainment and employment opportunities.

Athletics

The Columbus State Cougars are members of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and compete in the NJCAA Division II. Several sports have been recently eliminated for budgetary reasons, but the school is home to four varsity level teams: men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball, golf, and volleyball. The school is also well-known in the region for its award-winning cheer squad.
