Everett Community College, located in Everett, Washington, has both associate and bachelor鈥檚 degree programs.The college offers two-year Associate degrees in Arts and Sciences, Science, Business, Applied Science, Technical Arts, Fine Arts, and General Studies. These degrees include programs in dozens of fields of study, including Accounting, Computer-Aided Design, Digital Illustration, EMT, Fire Science, Journalism, Medical Assisting, Natural Science, Painting, Psychology, Sculpture, Tribal Enterprise Management, Visual Communications, Web Design, and Written Arts.

Admissions

Admissions are open; applicants need only to possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Students can apply online.

Applicants should submit their high school or college transcripts, as they will help school administrators determine the best course of study. Students will then need to complete a skills assessment and schedule an appointment with an advisor.

International students must show English proficiency on the Test of English as a Second Language. They must also show proof of medical insurance

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for students who need assistance paying their way through school. This aid comes in the form of scholarships, loans, grants, tuition wavers, and work-study programs. Most financial aid is based on need, taking into account family income.

Some of the scholarships that have been won by students include the Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation of Washington, Association of Washington Community and Technical College Administrators, and Greater Seattle Business Association, which offers more than 40 types of scholarships. Many of the scholarships available are awarded on both financial need and academic performance.

Students

The campuses in and around town are located about a half an hour north of Seattle. On weekends, students can visit the nearby Cascade Mountains, Mount Rainier National Park, and, of course, downtown Seattle. In addition, Vancouver, British Columbia, is only two and a half hours away.

Closer to home, Everett is the sixth-largest city in Washington, and has the largest public marina on the west coast.

A number of clubs and organizations have a presence on campus, including the First Nations, Chess Club, Graphics Club, Literature Club, Psychology Club, Teachers of Tomorrow, and Phi Theta Kappa.

Other organizations include the Iwi Pono Student Society, which focuses on Hawaiian history and culture, as well as the Nippon Friendship Club, which promotes a better understanding of Japanese history and culture. The college is also home to the Nippon Business Institute, which features the Nishiyama Garden.

Students interested in journalism can work on the staff of The Clipper, the student newspaper. And the Paperclip, which serves as a student union and gathering place for small study groups, provides free computer use and Internet access.

Athletics

The athletic department fields men鈥檚 teams in baseball, basketball, soccer, cross-country, and distance track; the women compete in basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, and distance track. Sports teams are nicknamed the Trojans, and are a member of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Several alumni played at the minor league level for organizations such as the Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, and Tampa Bay Rays.

Recreational student athletes may take advantage of an extensive intramural sports program.
